There is no legitimate market for selling CVV numbers online. A CVV is a card verification value, a security code that proves the person using a card has physical possession of it. Selling, buying, or trading CVVs is card fraud, and any website that advertises CVVs for sale is a criminal marketplace or a scam designed to steal from would-be buyers. No real bank, payment processor, or merchant sells CVV data to strangers.

Key warning signs
- Claims of “fresh,” “valid,” or “high-balance” CVVs.
- Requests for payment in cryptocurrency, gift cards, or peer-to-peer transfers.
- Promises of refunds, escrow, or “replacement” CVVs if a card fails.
- Use of anonymous messaging apps, throwaway email addresses, or hidden forums.
- Pressure to buy quickly before data is “sold out.”
- No verifiable business address, license, or customer-support history.
- Testimonials that focus on carding success rather than a real product or service.
Why a CVV marketplace cannot be legitimate
CVV data is sensitive authentication data under the PCI DSS, and merchants are not allowed to store it after a transaction is authorized. That means there is no lawful inventory of CVVs to resell. A site claiming to sell CVVs is either dealing in stolen payment data or running an advance-fee scam. Either way, using it can expose you to financial loss, identity theft, and criminal liability.
What about refunds, shipping, or guarantees?
Legitimate card processing does not involve shipping CVVs or offering refunds on them. Any “guarantee” on a CVV purchase is a tactic to lower suspicion. If you send money, you will have no recourse through normal consumer-protection channels because the transaction itself is illegal.
How do you report a CVV site?
Report the site to the FTC, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center, and your card issuer or bank. If you shared payment details, contact your bank immediately and consider a fraud alert or credit freeze.
